1. EPDM Seated Butterfly Valves

Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM) is the industry standard for general-purpose applications. It offers excellent resistance to weathering, ozone, and water-based chemicals.

  • Temperature Range: -20°C to 120°C.

  • Best For: HVAC systems, water treatment, fire protection, and low-pressure steam.

  • Avoid: Petroleum-based oils, fuels, and mineral acids.

2. NBR (Buna-N) Seated Butterfly Valves

Nitrile Butadiene Rubber (NBR) is the preferred choice for applications involving oils and hydrocarbons. It provides a rugged seal with high tensile strength.

  • Temperature Range: -10°C to 80°C.

  • Best For: Hydraulic fluids, lubricating oils, animal fats, and air lines.

  • Avoid: Ketones, strong acids, and brake fluids.

3. PTFE (Teflon) Seated Butterfly Valves

For high-purity or highly corrosive environments, Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is the gold standard. Often referred to by the brand name Teflon, these seats are nearly chemically inert.

  • Temperature Range: -30°C to 200°C.

  • Best For: Chemical processing, food and beverage (FDA compliant), pharmaceutical manufacturing, and aggressive acids.

  • Design Note: Often used in "lined" butterfly valves where the disc and body are also protected from the media.
